Scott Downs began his career in music education at Clovis East High School and Reyburn Intermediate School in 2018, instructing the Reyburn Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Clovis East Symphonic Winds, and the marching band visual program. Since beginning his tenure, the Reyburn Symphonic Band and the Clovis East Symphonic Winds have continuously received Unanimous Superior ratings at State Festival Performances. Recently appointed as the Director of the Clovis East Wind Ensemble as well as the Clovis East Marching Band in the Fall of 2023, he has already made significant contributions to the program, working with his colleagues Levi Dougherty and Timothy Childs to lead the band to a historic 3rd place finish at the Western Band Association Championships in November 2023, marking the highest placement in Clovis East High School Marching Band’s history. Additionally, Mr. Downs and his team lead the Clovis East Wind Ensemble to be accepted into the California All-State Music Educators Conference, where they performed this past January, 2025, in Sacramento, California. Following this, the Clovis East Bands will be having their debut performance at Carnegie Hall in April of 2025.
The performance with the Wind Ensemble at CASMEC 2025 is especially meaningful for Mr. Downs and his students, as all of the current Wind Ensemble members were taught by him during their 7th and 8th grade years at Reyburn Intermediate. They also studied under him in the Clovis East Symphonic Winds before joining the Wind Ensemble. Before he began his teaching career, Mr. Downs was an accomplished performer with the Concord Blue Devils "A" Corps from 2012 to 2017, where he was a featured euphonium and trombone soloist. He holds a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Music Education from the University of the Pacific, graduating in 2017 and 2018, respectively. Outside of music, Scott enjoys spending time with his loved ones, his Quail Tuna and brand new Baby Button quail, and enjoys the great outdoors on a mountain bike or skis. |

Tim Childs is the Associate Director of Bands at Clovis East High School in Clovis, CA. Alto Chair of The Elysium Quartet, locally acclaimed performer, and emerging educator, Tim has pushed the boundaries of the classical-saxophone music canon. He is a graduate from California State University Fresno and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education (22’). In addition, he earned his Master of Arts degree in Instrumental Conducting (24’) at California State University Fresno.
The Elysium Quartet is a locally acclaimed saxophone quartet and chamber ensemble that was accepted to participate and perform in the Inaugural Sinta Quartet Institute in Hingham, MA working with the world-renowned Sinta Quartet. The Elysium Quartet also performed David Maslanka’s Saxophone Quartet Concerto for Wind Ensemble with the Fresno State Wind Orchestra after winning the annual Fresno State Concerto Competition in Spring of 2024. His professional affiliations include NAfME (National Association for Music Education) and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. |

Levi Dougherty has been the Director of Percussion at Clovis East High School and Reyburn Intermediate School since 2018, where he is dedicated to providing his students with a comprehensive and high-quality percussion education. His percussion program emphasizes versatility and excellence, with students excelling in concert bands, marching band, indoor percussion, and concert percussion ensembles. Under his leadership, the Clovis East winter percussion program has achieved top honors, winning championships in the Northern California Percussion Alliance (NCPA) and San Joaquin Valley Color Guard and Percussion Review (SJVCGPR) circuits. Additionally, his concert percussion ensembles consistently earn top placements at the Percussive Arts Society California Competitive Percussion Festival.
Mr. Dougherty earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Fresno State University in 2017. During his time at Fresno State, he was an active performer with the Bulldog Marching Band, Golden Empire Drum and Bugle Corps, and Valley Independent Percussion, gaining valuable experience that he now shares with his students. In addition to his role as an educator, Levi has served as the Percussion Representative on the Fresno Madera County Music Educators Association (FMCMEA) Board of Directors since 2019. He is also a proud Vic Firth Educational Artist, committed to inspiring the next generation of percussionists. Levi currently resides in Clovis, California with his wife Claire and cats, Cali and Noxi. |

Alexandra Gilroy Golden began her tenure at the Reagan Educational Center in the fall of 2013 where she directed the Reyburn Marching Band & Guard, the Symphonic and Concert Bands, String and Chamber Orchestras as well as the Clovis East Orchestra. In 2018, Ms. Gilroy Golden was appointed Director of Orchestras and began teaching string ensembles full time, regularly earning Unanimous Superior ratings at festivals throughout the state. In the Spring of 2023 Ms. Gilroy Golden was proud to perform and earn both the Gold Rating and Adjudicator Awards with the Clovis East Orchestras for their performance in Honolulu, HI with Heritage Festivals. In April of 2024 the Clovis East Chamber Orchestra was chosen as one of a select few orchestras in the state of California to perform at the CMEA Large Ensemble Festival in Norwalk, CA. In the Spring of 2025 the Clovis East Orchestra will have their debut performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City under her baton. Students in the Reagan Educational Center Orchestras are also well represented in the county Honor Orchestras and Solo & Ensemble Festivals. Ali has dedicated several years of volunteer service to her community through her work on the FMCMEA Board, as the Orchestra Representative on the CMEA Central Section Board, and as the Convention Host on the CBDA Board working to plan and coordinate for the California State Convention, CASMEC. Ms. Gilroy Golden holds a B.A. in Oboe Performance and Music Education from UCLA, a M.M. in Oboe performance from UNLV and continues to freelance and teach private oboe lessons. In the Fall of 2019 Ms. Gilroy Golden received Teacher of the Year for her work at Clovis East High School and again, in the Fall of 2024 she was awarded Teacher of the Year for Reyburn Intermediate School. Ali currently resides in Clovis, CA with her husband Chris, their daughters Julia, Jane and Jordan and their cocker spaniels Max & Maple.

Hannah Oliver

Hannah Oliver has over a decade of experience teaching orchestra, band, and general music to students in grades K-12. A proud alumna of Clovis East High School’s first graduating class, Mrs. Oliver’s love of the cello began as a student in Clovis Unified School District. This passion inspired her to pursue a career in music education, where she now has the privilege of giving back to the community that sparked her musical journey. She has taught in both California and Maryland, leading beginning and advanced orchestras, implementing chamber music programs, and increasing student retention rates. Her ensembles have consistently earned superior ratings at county, state, and national festivals, and she has been recognized for her dedication to music education, including a nomination for Music Educator of the Year. Mrs. Oliver also has extensive experience organizing concerts, feeder system events, and enrichment opportunities such as field trips and guest clinician workshops.
In addition to her classroom teaching, Mrs. Oliver is an active cello instructor, sectional coach, and performer. She has performed with the Central Texas Medical Orchestra in Austin, Texas, the Columbia Orchestra in Columbia, Maryland, and the Fresno City College Community Symphony. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of the Pacific and a Master of Science in Family and Human Development from Arizona State University. In her time outside of teaching she enjoys spending time with her husband, four children, and their dogs and cats. Her hobbies include sewing, playing video games, reading, and hiking. Mrs. Oliver believes in the power of music to unite and celebrate humanity. She hopes she can pass on this joy to her students. |
Orchestra Faculty
Sev Dimacali is an accomplished alumni from the Clovis East High School Orchestra Program. Beginning in fifth grade, he has discovered a fervent love for all that is violin and orchestral music. Achieving the title of Concertmaster for all four years in High School and now leading as Concert Master for the Fresno City College Symphony Orchestra, Sev maintains an undying passion for classical music and violin, emphasizing the importance of always keeping one’s self connected with music. He has studied under both Lianna Elmore and John Morrice, illustrious violinists from the Fresno Philharmonic. Mr. Dimacali was awarded the REC Orchestra’s Director Award in 2017, and the National School Orchestra Award in 2021. He has also participated in the FMCMEA Honors orchestra (5 years) and Fresno State’s Annual Violin & Viola Festival. Sev worked as a violin instructor at Patrick’s Music School and now maintains his own private studio in the Central Valley. Currently double-majoring in Biochemistry and Music at Fresno City College, Sev remains adamant in keeping violin playing an integral part of his life no matter what science pathway he chooses to tread on.

Trinity Her is a violinist from Fresno, California and born from two refugees, making her a first generation American violinist in her family with little to no knowledge of classical music. Despite her challenges, she was able to work hard and expand her understanding as an orchestral musician, chamber musician and teacher. Trinity graduated from California State University, Fresno where she received her Bachelor's in Violin Performance under the instruction of Dr. Limor Toren-Immerman. She is currently studying to complete her Master's degree at CSU, Fresno. Miss Her holds the position of Concertmaster in the Fresno State Symphony Orchestra and leads various chamber ensembles. Trinity has performed in the Sequoia Symphony Orchestra and the Fresno Philharmonic. As a teacher, Trinity enjoys sharing her knowledge and love for music with her students. She coaches at University High School, Clovis East High School and Reyburn Intermediate School and maintains her own private lessons studio at Steinway Piano Gallery.

Sophia Hurst is an Alumni of the Clovis East High School orchestra program. Sophia has been playing viola for over nine years and began teaching three years ago. Miss Hurst has participated in various orchestras such as the FMCMEA Honor Orchestras (Principal, 7 years) CASMAC All-State Orchestra, CODA All-State Orchestra, Arrowbear Music Camp, and FOOSA Philharmonic. Sophia is currently principal violist with the Fresno City Community Orchestra. Recently Miss Hurst was awarded the Jeff Sandersier Award (2024) at Fresno City College and the National School Orchestra Award (2023) at Clovis East High School. Sophia is passionate about working with young inspiring violists who wish to grow on their instruments and as musicians.

Emma Hill is an accomplished cellist who has a rich experience as a chamber musician and orchestral player. Raised in Fresno, she began taking cello lessons at age 9 and has been a student of Dr. Thomas Loewenheim since middle school. She was a member of the Youth Orchestras of Fresno and Fresno Madera Counties Music Educators Association Honor Orchestras, winning principal positions in both. After graduating from Clovis West in 2016, Emma attended Rice University for one year as an Earth Science major before transferring to Fresno State to pursue a bachelor’s degree in music performance.
Ms. Hill has participated in many festivals including Domaine Forget de Charlevoix, Borromeo, Cremona International Music Academy, Sierra Academy of Music in Mammoth Lakes, California, Cello | Fresno International Cello Festival, Music in the Mountains in Durango, Colorado, and the Fresno Opera and Orchestra Summer Academy. She has performed in masterclasses for the Alexander String Quartet, Brinton Smith, Johannes Moser, Philippe Muller, Emilio Colón, Mark Kosower, Csaba Onczay, Lynn Harrell, and more. Ms. Hill has won numerous awards, including the local Fresno ASTA competition in 2018 and 2020, and the senior division of the California ASTA 2018 State Solo Competition. She made her solo debut with orchestra performing Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1 as winner of the 2018-2019 Fresno State Concerto Competition. An active chamber musician, Ms. Hill played with the Fresno State Piano Quartet and was appointed cellist of the Tower Quartet in December 2022. As an orchestral player, she has served as principal cellist of the Fresno State Symphony Orchestra and regularly performs with the Fresno Philharmonic and Sequoia Symphony. She has been teaching privately since 2019 and has been a cello coach at University High School, Clovis North, and Clovis East. Ms. Hill graduated Summa Cum Laude from Fresno State in May 2021 and earned her master’s degree in cello performance from Fresno State in May 2023. She has been Professor of Cello at Fresno City College since August 2023. |
Madeleine Rabena is a double bass player. She is an alumni of Reyburn Intermediate and Clovis East High Schools Orchestra Program. Miss Rabena is currently a student at Fresno City College pursuing a degree in Music Education. She began her bass journey in the 5th grade. Madeleine plays both classical and jazz styles.

Jana White graduated from Sunnyside High School in 2017. She is currently attending California State University, Fresno where she is pursuing a degree in Music Education. Jana plays the Double Bass and is currently taking lessons for both classical and jazz styles under Bruce Bransby and Richard Lloyd Giddens Jr. respectively. While coaching here at Clovis East and Reyburn, Jana also coaches at Buchanan and Alta Sierra, Clovis West and Kastner, University High School, and the Youth Orchestras of Fresno.

Katherine 'KK' Rasmussen is an Instrumental Performing Arts Visual Designer and Instructor. She designs and instructs for High School Fall and Winter programs as well as Independent WGI and DCI ensembles throughout California. She has been working with various Clovis Unified School District ensembles since 2012, and currently spends most of her time with Clovis East High School as their Lead Visual Designer and and Blue Devils Performing Arts. KK also serves the Clovis East Instrumental Music Team as an Administrative Assistant
